Paralegal Technology – Redaction Technology
Paralegals generally hate the requirement to tediously ‘redact’ documents and remove confidential and privacy information. It’s a massively time-consuming job and one that simply eats up concentration as well.
However there are some new tools out there that can make it so easy to redact documents by removing those pieces of information. A posting on the LegalTalkNetwork looked at the new technology, such as Redact-IT.
Redact-IT is a really simple ‘point-and-click’ piece of technology which any paralegal can quickly learn and can employ with various tools like it’s auto-find tool, which can go to those social security numbers, email addresses, contact details etc and remove them immediately.
Of course there is the opportunity for the paralegal to check the work before saving it to a new file and you can also use custom searches and other terms that will be used in order to find and replace specific terms.
Good redaction technology, and there are other tools out there too, is something that makes the life of the paralegal a whole lot easier. Certainly to be able to use such tools means you can get away from the tedium and on to the more challenging paralegal work that you got your paralegal certificate or paralegal degree for in the first place.
So if your firm doesn’t yet have good redaction software – work on them to get it!
